Password Pupil for Schools
Password Pupil tests are used by British independent and international schools to assess students both pre and post arrival in order to support student recruitment and admission.
Assessment for Schools
Password Pupil tests were developed by world leading experts in testing and assessment in conjunction with the UK independent school sector.

Since our launch in 2008 hundreds of educational institutions have formed partnerships with Password to enhance or replace their own in-house testing. We help our partners move their assessments online, reducing costs and administrative burden and allowing the flexibility to deliver tests anywhere in the world.

For an overview of what Password can offer your school, please watch our introductory video. If you’d like to find out more, our schools page below will provide you with further information.

Password Pupil English Language Tests

All Password English language tests, including Password Pupil tests, are designed and academically managed by
CRELLA (the Centre for Research in English Language Learning and Assessment), a research group involved in the development and validation of many of the world’s most renowned English language assessments including IELTS and the Cambridge suite.

The tests are formally aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), the international standard for describing language ability.

Password Pupil Maths Tests

Password Pupil Maths tests were developed following demand from institutions already using our English tests. In 2017, we undertook an extensive consultation with our partner universities, colleges and schools and worked with senior maths teachers from a consortium of leading UK independent schools to ensure the tests would enjoy the same academic validity and usability as our English tests.

All Password tests are proven to have extremely high levels of accuracy since their launch in 2008.

Password Pupil Tests and Test Modules

There are three standard Password Pupil tests which have been specifically designed and customised for UK independent and international schools.

This test is used to assess the English language ability of applicants to GCSE, A level and IB programmes. It is often used to screen applicants before a face to face or Skype interview.

This test is used to assess the English language ability of applicants to secondary education. It is often used before a face to face or Skype interview. A semi-adaptive version of Pupil English Younger is now available which assesses a wider range of language ability than the original and has a slightly different format.

Message from our Head of School Partnerships

Before moving to join the Password team, I was both Head of EAL and Head of International Section at d’Overbroeck’s, an independent senior school in Oxford.  For nearly 20 years, I worked supporting international pupils in English medium instruction and was part of an admissions team handling significant numbers of international pupil applications.

d’Overbroeck’s adopted Password Pupil tests as part of a strategic review of our admissions processes and this was transformational in terms of our speed and efficiency in assessing applications.  It also improved academic practices, such as planning for EAL class groups and appropriate subject option combinations, as well as how we tracked EAL pupil progress and attainment.

As a former Password Pupil test user, I always appreciated the active engagement of the Password team with the independent school sector and their desire to respond to our needs and interests.  It is a tradition I am working hard to maintain.

I have been delighted to see the way Password partner schools new and long-standing continue to contribute to the on-going development of a sector bespoke test suite over which they have a true sense ownership.  I hope the testimonials you find here will encourage you to get in touch with us and set you on the journey of becoming a partner school too.
